Energy from Waste (EFW) Forum, Nov. 2006

Energy from Waste (EFW) is fast becoming the most polarizing waste issue of the decade. The lack of landfill capacity in Ontario and the threat of U.S. border closures to Canadian waste have created a surge of interest into the viability of advanced thermal technologies to manage waste residuals. The availability and cost of energy has added another layer to this discussion, as governments and industries examine the cost benefits of producing energy from waste or substituting waste as a fuel replacement.

The Recycling Council of Ontario hosted an all day EFW Forum on Friday, November 3rd, 2006. This forum brought together perspectives and experiences from the European, Canadian, and Ontario context to closely examine the subject of managing wastes through thermal technologies and the role that this contentious issue may play in Ontario’s evolving waste management strategy.
