Deirdre has more than 30 years experience working in the areas of sustainability, climate change, air quality, health and related policy work. In her role as Sr. Manager at GMF she oversees a team responsible for developing the offers for funding sustainability projects as well as the capacity building to support Canadian municipal officials. Prior to working at FCM, Deirdre was the Executive Director of the Canadian Water Resources Association and the Canadian Climate Forum.
For more than a dozen years she led the charity Clean Air Champions which she co-founded and guided to international and national awards for its ground-breaking, curriculum-connected programming. Deirdre is a two-time certified trainee of The Climate Reality Project (Al Gore) and serves/served on several national science and research advisory committees including for the National Lung Health Framework, GET Facts/CIHR Knowledge Mobilization, Canadian Ice Core Archives, and Catastrophe Indexes and Quantification Inc. Deirdre was awarded ‘Alumni of the Year’ from the Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo (2013) where she earned her Bachelor Environmental Studies (minor in Biology) (1984). Her Master’s degree in Environmental Resources Management (minor in Business Administration), was from York University (1994).
She was a member of the National Equestrian Team (1984-1988), and has always lived an active lifestyle participating regularly in many out-in-nature sports including cycling, trail running and skate skiing.
